BARLEY
Barley is the common name of the plants of the genus Hordeum, of the grasses family. Much of the barley sold on the market is for animal feed or processed into malt for beer or malt-enriched food products. Cerela barley is popular among agricultural producers in eastern Canada and Uruguay. Our barleys (2 and 6 rows) are also being tested in Western Canada and the United States to assess their adaptations for these markets. Barley from Cerela's breeding program to date is mostly for animal feed. However, Céréla recently signed an agreement with a Quebec university to develop elite malting barley cultivars.
